Ronin Brand Insignia Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi Review

Introduction: I made sure to order my Ronin Brand Insignia BJJ gi straight from the source. I ordered from Kinji San Martial Arts and spoke directly with one of the owners, Doug Lee. We spoke for a long time about all of the different BJJ gi brands on the market right now and I ended up deciding on the Ronin.

Fit: My Ronin Insignia fit perfectly right away. Typically, I fit very well into A3s and this A3 was no different. I think the skirt was a great length for a BJJ-cut gi and I will definitely not be washing this gi with hot water, or putting it in the dryer. Even if it shrinks a little bit over time, it should still fit me perfectly for a long time to come.

Design: The Ronin Insignia would make a great standard academy gi with an added school patch on the back. It is very basic, but has a bit of cool flare with Ronin Brand seam tape on the inside of the jacket and inside of the sleeves. It also has very intricate and solid embroidery on the bicep area of each sleeve. It also has the same Ronin Brand taping along the outside of both pant legs, but the light silver taping blends perfectly and really compliments my white gi. On the blue gi, the taping is blue and on the black gis it is black.

Jacket: As noted earlier, the jacket of the Ronin Brand Insignia is made of a pearl weave fabric. This means that is about as strong as a single weave jacket, but a bit lighter in weight. I also enjoy that the neck of the jacket doesn't choke me when I pull the skirt across on the bottom. I am a bit of a heavier guy, but had no trouble wearing the jacket.

Pants: The Pants on the Ronin Brand Insignia are really nice and fit me great as well. They were a good length and sat just above my ankle. They were a bit big around the waist, but I think it's because I wear my pants very low on my hips. The draw string on the gi was fairly long and the seam tape that runs along the outside of the leg hasn't shown any signs of wear or tear.

Conclusion: I tend to gravitate more toward gis that are very flashy and stand out in a crowd, but the Ronin Brand Insignia has definitely made its way into my weekly rotation of BJJ gis. It also sells for a very decent price and I would highly recommend any academy owner looking into getting them wholesale for their academy. I hope that in the future, Ronin comes out with a bit flashier gi because I love the quality of this gi!
