The history of mixed martial arts is said to date back to ancient Greece. During this time, the event was practiced during Olympic Games. Originally, the fighting styles incorporated hand to hand challenge in a special sport which was referred to as pankration. The rules followed in this game were not so many. As a matter of fact, history records that they were only two which involved boundaries on biting and eye gouging. The history of mixed martial arts is important because without it, the modern martial arts would never have been born.
During the times of Alexander the great, this practice found its way around the world especially in India where athletes were being recruited to become soldiers. Although there were always speculations that perhaps the history of MMA may have originated in china, it is said that the incidence that led to the Chinese monks coming up with their own mixed martial arts like judo, karate and kung fu was as a result of a Chinese Buddhist monk who had made his travels to India and got the idea of pankration which had already made its way through India in that period.
Just like knowledge, MMA made their way through various countries changing forms and strategy a bit according methods of play. For example, we can freely say that the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu may have been born from the Chinese judo. Most of these practices made their way to different countries due to trade and industrial revolution. Slave trade could be noted as a major contributor to the art of MMA all over the world. There are various reasons as to why many people would sign up for mixed martial arts fighting. The greatest benefit of mixed martial arts fighting has always been connected to discipline. This discipline is particularly important because it incorporates the need to keep your body fit by eating well. It also helps you be able to keep time. Since in a mixed martial arts training session, it is a requirement that each trainee maintain the set schedule. This is important in your real life especially at work where the application is guaranteed.
There is another great importance of the art of MMA. This is self defense. Although your teacher will always insist that the reason for your studies are not to evoke trouble, he will always suggest that the knowledge in this art can also be used as a defense mechanism in case of attack or robbery with violence. The confidence that you get from continuous practice in martial arts whether mixed or not is beneficial in your daily activities. It is one way of keeping your family on track since the teachings also involve how to cope with different and difficult life situations. There are many schools that have been opened from all over the world to teach this old art.
